Dear Associates,
I am pleased to share with you some great news. The Associates, through our University of Manitoba Business School Foundation, has donated $50,000 towards a fund for bursaries for Asper students suddenly affected by COVID-19. The donation will support undergraduate Asper students who have lost their co-op job placements or those who have lost current part-time or summer positions due to COVID-19. Most of these students have no other financial options.
This contribution is made possible by your membership in the Associates and is above our 2019-2020 gift to the school which, including this new donation, will total $325,000 for the academic year. On behalf of our board and entire leadership team, I sincerely thank you for your on-going support during the COVID-19 crisis. These students need our help. Your continued support helps us help them through these uncertain times.
As we continue to assess the impact of COVID-19 on businesses across Canada and the economy in general, I am humbled by all your notes of support. I am truly honoured to be chair of the Associates. Your continued support underscores the value of the Associates and our 37-year history of supporting the Asper School of Business. Our strength is in our people and your individual actions have led to the collective support for each other and the Asper School, its faculty and students.
We are also excited to announce that on Wednesday, April 22, at noon, we will be hosting our first virtual presentation: COVID-19 Economic Perspective, with Benjamin Tal, Managing Director and Deputy Chief Economist, CIBC World Markets. I encourage you to virtually participate. Once again, I thank you for your generous continued support. Please rest assured that we are not remaining idle. We are focusing on our future. I am confident that, together, we will be stronger. We will be ready to accomplish impactful and new ways of advancing business education and preparing our future leaders.
Sincerely,
Colin Ryan, CFA, ICD.D
